I do not cut my hair very often. It's usually once a year. This year, I let it grow a little longer. I decided to do this in order to be able to donate it. I began researching a little to see how much I needed. I ran across some articles that made me really question whether Locks Of Love was any good since they make over a million dollars every year selling hair when they are a non-profit organization. They also seem to charge people for their wigs and are not given for free. Neither of these settled well with me so I began to see if there was another organization to donate to that fell more in line with what I feel they should be doing. I would have needed at least 11 inches for them anyway and I knew I wouldn't make it to that length before having to cut it.
I found that Pantene has a program called
Beautiful Lengths. They only needed 8 inches of hair and seemed to be more of what I was looking for. I figured I could wait until I was able to cut 8 inches off. I dealt with my hair, mostly up in a ponytail, until I could take it no more and to see if it was long enough.

Thanksgiving gave me a great opportunity. It was the first Thanksgiving I have been able to be "home" for since 2007. Thanks to my sister for coming to pick me up, Sophie and I were able to spend it with my family, but unfortunately without my husband. He had to work. My sister is in cosmetology school right now. She is good at all of that "stuff" and is really enjoying the school. She agreed to cut my hair for me. My hair is a bit hard to cut as every cut can be very clearly seen because of how straight it is and the color of it. She was up for the challenge, though!
She carefully measured out 8 inches from the shortest hair and made the cuts for the donation. Then she got to work cutting the layers. After about an hour, she had it done! It looks great! I had to go a bit shorter than I usually do to get my 8 inches, but I like it. It's so much easier to take care of and feels so much healthier shorter. Now, I just need to get my ponytails cut off in an envelope on their way to Pantene! I hope they can get some use out of my hair!
If you are interested in getting a cut from my sister, please make an appointment with her if you live in/around Euless. You may be able to just walk in, but an appointment would assure you that she is able to do it. She does a fabulous job and needs customers for her grades. Let me know if you need any contact information for her if you do not have a way to get in contact with her. She would happily cut, color, or style your hair. Or if you just want a manicure or pedicure, she could do that as well. Every task helps her out at school. Plus you're getting basically a professional job done at a fraction of the cost. Win, win!
