Independence Day weekend 2014

Wow, it's been a while since I posted anything on my blog!  I guess life really had me busy doing other things.  I've actually been taking time to relax, read, clean, and of course housework and play with my adorable kiddos.  :)  Hopefully I can somewhat get back into posting on here.

So, let's begin with our Independence Day weekend!  On Friday, July 4th, we shot some fireworks off at home.  I was excited because Sophie has finally reached the age to really enjoy some fun things.  We didn't get too much, but the little we had we all enjoyed.  Sophie truly is not a risk taker and much more reserved than Everett.  She didn't change that for fireworks.  She did try out holding a Roman Candle with me as it shot off, but after the first time or two she was done with that.  She liked seeing the fireworks that we set on the ground that sparkled and shot up some streams of light, but she stood directly beside me or Brandon or in the garage.  What she did enjoy doing was throwing down little Snappers.  You know, the ones that you throw down and they pop really loud.  She enjoyed those.  That's about all she wanted to do.  She did a sparkler or two, but always requested to go back to the sparklers.  Ok, kid.  If that's what you want.

Everett loved it all.  He wanted to wave the sparklers, though we definitely helped him with that.  He wanted to help hold the Roman Candles.  He loved seeing the fireworks light up on the ground and would raise his hands up and smile really big.  He also loved the snappers, but mainly just to hold one.  Or eat it.  I had to pull a couple out of his mouth.  There's a reason I refer to him as our goat.  I bet you didn't know that sometimes a wet snapper will still pop.  Well, now you do.  :)

Our neighbors had a few artillery shells they shot off, so we all were able to enjoy those as well.  Sophie did like those, too.  Everett would tend to look up after they went off and would miss it all as he was so engrossed in playing with something else.  We started to pick him up and hold him on his back when one went off so he could see them.  He would smile really big and once or twice did look up at them on his own if we warned him they were coming in time.

The next night, July 5th, we went to the park by the river here in our small town to watch the display of fireworks there.  After waiting forever with two kids that were beginning to get a bit cranky, they started quite late.  What was supposed to be a 9:15 start ended up being about 9:40 or so.  We all enjoyed that showing, even if it was only about 15-20 minutes.  It was a fun family time and I'm so thankful that we had this opportunity.

Of course, none of it would have been possible without the many, many who came before us that risked their lives, their livelihoods, and their families' lives for our freedoms.  All the way back to those that signed the Declaration of Independence.  I'm not sure if anyone in our day and age would have the eloquence, intelligence, and bravery needed to do what those men did.  They greatly suffered for it and because of them, we now have a free country.  Though there are many things happening I do not believe are right and feel as though our free country is becoming a little less free daily, I am still thankful to live in the most free country in the world.  Thank you to the patriots who have provided that for me and my family.

I didn't take any pictures of our time shooting fireworks here at home, but did snap a few of us at the park.  Sophie was not in mood to take pictures.  She went to bed late Friday and it was getting about bedtime already Saturday evening so she was a bit moody. So, don't mind her bored look.  :)  Everett was being silly so most of his are blurry as I didn't take my good camera, just my point and shoot.  Anyway, enjoy!
