Blessings of a 4 Month Old

Sophie is at one of many very fun ages right now.  She makes me smile and laugh so much!  I thought maybe you'd like to hear some of the things she's doing and enjoying right now.
  • She's starting to grab her legs and feet.  It's so cute!
  • She started laughing a few weeks ago, and is finally starting to do it more frequently.
  • When you talk to her sometimes, she does what we call her cute face: puts her chin down, bats her eyes, and gives the biggest grin a baby could ever do. That'll be a hard look to turn down later!
  • She LOVES standing up.  She is actually pretty strong in her legs.  She may walk early, but who knows for sure!
  • She still moves around in her crib.  She's pretty much always turned at least 90 degrees from where we laid her down, sometimes all the way around.
  • She is getting so good at grabbing, but still misses what she's aiming for at times.  She's determined though - if she misses, she tries again until she gets it.  (See what we could learn from Sophie?)
  • She loves mirrors.  That baby in the mirror sure does make her smile.
  • She's blessed me in particular with sleeping through the night since she was about 2.5 months old.  She now sleeps on average 12 hours a night, sometimes up to 14.
  • She is absolutely a Daddy's girl.  She stares and smiles at him from the moment he comes home.  The best sight of the day is seeing them two making each other smile every evening.
  • We're on our way to sitting!  She can sit with the Boppy for a few seconds on her own.
  • She moves her hands around a lot like she's talking with her hands.  Her newest hand movement is to just move it up and down like she's patting on something.
  • She has started grabbing things that come near her - paper, clothes, blankets, toys, and has even reached out to Kiyomi (one of our cats).  Of course, things she gets her hands on are headed straight for her mouth, so we keep a close eye.
  • She has begun to realize that not everyone is familiar to her.  She does alright with someone holding her for a few minutes, but then starts to cry, which quickly ends when I take her back.
  • She sleeps a little haphazardly.  Usually she naps with her head turned towards her shoulder or all curled up as much as she can in her swing.  I'm surprised she doesn't get a sore neck from some of the positions I've found her in!
  • She likes baths, people talking to her, anything with bright colors (including phones, TVs, computers, etc), being upright, and being naked.  I do hope she grows out of the last one!
Of course, no matter what I do I can never fully explain the joy she brings to us.   Here's a couple of pictures to try to show her silliness and a video of her playing with her caterpillar.  They are simple shots of her, but they show a little bit of her personality and the Sophie I get to experience daily.  Can't wait to see what new fun things 5 months brings!
